Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything you need to know about GoBlueCrew — umpire assignment, tournament brackets, pricing, and getting started.

General
What is GoBlueCrew?
GoBlueCrew is an umpire assignment and tournament management platform built for youth baseball and softball. It combines umpire self-assignment, live tournament brackets, pool play standings, and league game scheduling into one system — eliminating the coordinator loop and disconnected spreadsheets that most leagues still rely on.
Who is GoBlueCrew built for?
GoBlueCrew serves three groups:

Leagues & Clubs — Schedule season games, run end-of-season playoff brackets, and host tournaments. Leagues on the Pro or Elite plan also get access to pool play and elimination bracket tools.

Umpire Associations — Manage your roster, assign officials across multiple leagues, track fill rates, and run veteran evaluations. The BlueLine product is purpose-built for associations of any size.

Tournament Directors — Run multi-day tournaments with pool play, single or double-elimination brackets, public fan-facing Live Brackets, and multi-field scheduling.
What sports does GoBlueCrew support?
GoBlueCrew currently supports baseball and softball. The platform is actively expanding to additional youth sports — the infrastructure is built to extend to any sport that uses officials.
Do umpires need to download an app?
No app installation required. GoBlueCrew is fully web-based. Umpires log in from any browser on their phone or desktop to view open games, self-assign, and manage their schedule. This is a deliberate design decision — lower the barrier to adoption for officials of all ages and tech comfort levels.
What is BlueLine?
BlueLine is the umpire association product within GoBlueCrew. It's the dashboard, tools, and workflows designed specifically for association administrators — managing the roster, qualification tracking, assignment visibility across leagues, fill rate reporting, and veteran evaluations. When a league connects to a BlueLine association, game assignments flow automatically between both sides.
Umpire Assignment
How does umpire self-assignment work?
When a league publishes games, umpires see only the games they're eligible to work — filtered automatically by the qualification engine. They claim games directly in the platform. There's no back-and-forth with a coordinator, no text chains, no spreadsheet to update. Games fill themselves.
What is the qualification engine?
The qualification engine automatically evaluates each umpire's experience level, certifications, and any league-configured rules — and filters the visible game list accordingly. An umpire new to the plate won't see a Varsity plate game; a veteran working up won't see games below their level unless configured otherwise. This keeps assignment quality consistent without requiring admin oversight on every game.
What happens if a game goes unclaimed?
Admins have a fill rate dashboard that shows exactly which games are uncovered and how far out they are. You can set up visibility windows — games open to all qualified umpires after a certain date — and the system surfaces unfilled games prominently so you can intervene before game day rather than the morning of.
Can my league connect to an external umpire association?
Yes. Leagues on the Pro or Elite plan can connect to multiple umpire associations. Each association's umpire pool becomes available for your games based on the qualification settings. If your association subscribes to BlueLine, your league may also receive complimentary access — see Sponsored Access below.
What are veteran evaluations?
Veteran evaluations allow senior or experienced umpires to formally assess newer officials on their performance after a game. Evaluation data is captured in the platform and visible to association administrators — supporting a structured development pipeline rather than informal word-of-mouth feedback.
What are manager ratings?
After a game, team managers can submit a brief rating on the officiating crew. Ratings are aggregated and visible to the umpire association — giving administrators another data point for umpire development and assignment decisions, while protecting individual umpires from one-off complaints by showing trends over time.
Tournaments & Brackets
What tournament formats does GoBlueCrew support?
GoBlueCrew supports:

Pool Play — Teams are grouped into pools, play round-robin games, and standings update automatically as scores are entered.

Single Elimination — Standard bracket where one loss ends a team's tournament.

Double Elimination — Teams get two chances, with a winners bracket and losers bracket converging at the championship.

Hybrid — Pool play followed by a seeded single or double-elimination bracket, the most common format in youth baseball and softball tournaments.
What is the Public Live Bracket?
The Public Live Bracket is a shareable URL — no login required — that shows the current state of your tournament in real time. Scores, results, and advancing teams update as games are completed. Parents and coaches can follow along from the parking lot. Tournament directors can embed or share the link on social media or their website.
How does auto-advancing work in brackets?
When pool play ends, GoBlueCrew automatically seeds teams into the elimination bracket based on standings — accounting for win-loss record, run differential, and any additional tiebreakers you configure. Bracket slots are populated without manual data entry. As elimination games complete, winning teams advance to the next round automatically.
Can I run a tournament on multiple fields simultaneously?
Yes, with the Tournament Director plan ($149/month). Multi-field scheduling lets you assign pool play games and bracket games across multiple fields, manage time slots per field, and view the full tournament schedule in one place. This is designed for organizations running events with 3+ fields.
Can umpires be assigned to tournament games through GoBlueCrew?
Yes. Tournament games flow through the same umpire assignment system as season games. If your league or tournament is connected to a BlueLine umpire association, officials can self-assign to tournament games using the same qualification-based workflow. For Tournament Director plan subscribers, umpire assignment is included for all events.
What's the difference between a league playoff and a standalone tournament?
A league playoff is an end-of-season bracket using your existing league teams. It's included in the Pro plan with no limit — it's a natural extension of your season, not a separate event product.

A standalone tournament is a discrete event with registration, pool play, and a bracket — typically open to teams from multiple leagues. Standalone tournaments are counted against your plan's included count (2/year on Pro, 6/year on Elite) or can be added at $29/event (Pro) or $25/event (Elite).
Pricing
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Both leagues and umpire associations have a free tier with no credit card required.

League Free — Core game scheduling, umpire self-assignment, qualification engine, manager ratings, and up to 150 games per season. Playoff brackets and tournament tools are not included on Free.

Umpire Org Free — Up to 25 umpires, 100 assignments per season, org admin dashboard, and 1 league connection.
What's included in the Pro plan ($49/month)?
The Pro plan includes everything in Free plus: up to 500 games per season, unlimited playoff brackets, 2 standalone tournaments per year (pool play + bracket), non-league / ad-hoc game scheduling, CSV bulk import, volunteer obligation tracking, reports & analytics, and multiple umpire org connections. Additional tournaments beyond the 2 included are $29/event.
What's included in the Elite plan ($99/month)?
Elite includes everything in Pro plus: unlimited games per season, 6 standalone tournaments per year, priority support, a dedicated onboarding specialist, and custom field & schedule setup. Additional tournaments beyond the 6 included are $25/event.
What is the Tournament Director plan ($149/month)?
The Tournament Director plan is built for organizations whose primary business is running tournaments — not managing a league season. It includes everything in Elite plus: unlimited tournaments, multi-field bracket scheduling, Public Live Brackets for fans, custom bracket branding, and dedicated tournament setup support. No per-event fees.
What is Sponsored Access?
If your league is the host league of a BlueLine umpire association that subscribes to the Pro or Elite umpire org plan, your league receives complimentary platform access — no monthly fee and no per-game charges for assignments where that association provides the officials. The system recognizes the relationship automatically. If the association's subscription lapses, your league reverts to its stored plan.
How does umpire org pricing work?
Umpire associations are billed per assignment rather than a flat monthly fee — so you only pay for games you actually staff. Pro associations pay $1.24/assignment; Elite associations pay $1.00/assignment with unlimited roster size. The Free tier covers up to 100 assignments per season at no cost.
Are there long-term contracts?
No. GoBlueCrew does not require long-term contracts. You can start, upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time. Elite and Tournament Director plans include onboarding support to ensure you get value quickly.
Getting Started
How long does setup take?
Most leagues are fully configured and running within a single day. The self-serve setup walks you through adding your divisions, fields, and game schedule. For leagues with complex configurations or large datasets, Elite and Tournament Director plans include a dedicated onboarding specialist who handles setup for you.
Do I need an IT team to get started?
No. GoBlueCrew is built to be self-serve — no software to install, no servers to configure, no IT team required. If you can fill out a web form, you can set up your league. Higher-tier plans include onboarding support if you want hands-on help.
Can I import my existing schedule or data?
Yes. Pro and higher plans include CSV bulk import for games, allowing you to upload an existing schedule rather than entering games one by one. If you're migrating from another platform, our onboarding team can assist with the data transfer on Elite and Tournament Director plans.
Is there a demo I can try before signing up?
Yes. Visit app.gobluecrew.com to explore the platform with demo data — no account required. You can see the assignment workflow, league dashboard, and tournament tools before committing to anything.
How do I connect my league to an umpire association?
After your league is set up, you can send a connection request to any umpire association that uses BlueLine. Once the association accepts, their eligible umpires will see your games in their assignment feed. If your association isn't on GoBlueCrew yet, contact us — we'll reach out to them directly.
Still have questions?
